RESUMO

Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) is a common lymphoid hematological malignancy, the treatment and prognosis of NHL have always been the focus of clinical attention. Chemotherapy is the main first-line treatment, but there is still no effective treatment for patients with poor response to chemotherapy, recurrence or progression within a short period of time after treatment, and new and effective drugs need to be developed clinically. As the only clinically validated oral selective inhibitor of nuclear export (SINE), Selinexor has been approved for the treatment of relapsed/refractory diffuse large B-cell lymphoma and multiple myeloma, clinical attempts are being made to apply it to the treatment of other hematological malignancies. This article reviews the anti-tumor mechanism of Selinexor and the latest research progress in its application in NHL, and provides ideas for a more diverse, standardized and effective applications of Selinexor in NHL.

RESUMO

In this paper, we report on the design and simple fabrication of novel nanocomposite hydrogels with optic-sonic transparency and hydroacoustic-sensitive conductivity. The proposed nanocomposite hydrogels are constructed by poly( N, N-dimethylacrylamide) and exfoliated Laponite clay nanosheets via free radical polymerization. With lithium chloride (LiCl) as ionic additives inside the polymeric networks of the hydrogels, the lithium cations (Li+) could be stored on and in the clay nanosheets owing to the electrostatic adsorption and cation exchange. Triggered by hydroacoustic wave oscillation, the stored Li+ ions could escape from the clay nanosheets, resulting in the augmentation of ionic concentration inside the polymeric networks and thus the increase of the conductivity of the nanocomposite hydrogel. Inversely, upon removing the hydroacoustic signals, the Li+ ions could be readsorbed again by the clay nanosheets; as a result, the conductivity of the nanocomposite hydrogel decreases again. Moreover, the fabricated nanocomposite hydrogels also feature high stretchability and spliceable and antifreezing properties. Such novel nanocomposite hydrogels are highly promising for development of systems for camouflaging and sensing sonar scanning.

RESUMO

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disorder disease, causing the phenomenon of shaking, rigidity, slowness of movement and dementia. 1-Methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP) can lead to some Parkinson's-like symptoms by destroying dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra of the brain. It has been thus used to establish PD models in various animal studies. Here, mice receive MPTP injections (20 mg/kg/day) for seven days and the behavioral tests are performed on the eighth day. This model is adapted efficiently in the study of PD. The behavioral tests here include the cylinder test and the open field test. The cylinder experiment is used to detect the animals' ability to lift their front paws when put into a different environment. As the PD model mice show arching-the mouse arches its back-the number of paw liftings decrease. This test is easy to execute. The open field test is used to detect the amount of time the mice spend on running, walking, and remaining immobile. We analyze animals' movements in open field using software and obtain data. Lastly, we use L-DOPA, one of the most commonly used PD drugs, as one example to show how to apply this model to the study of PD drugs. Our results indicate that MPTP neurotoxicity induces motor deficit which can be mitigated by L-DOPA.

RESUMO

Cytokinin oxidase/dehydrogenases (CKXs) play a critical role in the irreversible degradation of cytokinins, thereby regulating plant growth and development. Brassica napus is one of the most widely cultivated oilseed crops worldwide. With the completion of whole-genome sequencing of B. napus, genome-wide identification and expression analysis of the BnCKX gene family has become technically feasible. In this study, we identified 23 BnCKX genes and analyzed their phylogenetic relationships, gene structures, conserved motifs, protein subcellular localizations, and other properties. We also analyzed the expression of the 23 BnCKX genes in the B. napus cultivar Zhong Shuang 11 ('ZS11') by quantitative reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), revealing their diverse expression patterns. We selected four BnCKX genes based on the results of RNA-sequencing and qRT-PCR and compared their expression in cultivated varieties with extremely long versus short siliques. The expression levels of BnCKX5-1, 5-2, 6-1, and 7-1 significantly differed between the two lines and changed during pod development, suggesting they might play roles in determining silique length and in pod development. Finally, we investigated the effects of treatment with the synthetic cytokinin 6-benzylaminopurine (6-BA) and the auxin indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) on the expression of the four selected BnCKX genes. Our results suggest that regulating BnCKX expression is a promising way to enhance the harvest index and stress resistance in plants.

RESUMO

The distribution of external phosphorus (P) in the overlying water, pore water, and sediment under different disturbances were investigated and the transformation between internal P forms was analyzed. The results show that physical disturbances can promote the migration of external P from the overlying water to the sediment. In addition, the enhancement was even higher due to the bioturbation of the combined disturbances. Noticeably, the improvement of the P migration in the control was lowest, compared with the three disturbances. This may be attributed to the penetration of dissolved oxygen. Meanwhile, the physical disturbance reduced the average content of (dissolved organic phosphorus) DIP in the pore water by 12.13% (a mean of 6d and 10d), compared with the control. However the reduction was less than that associated with the bioturbation (38.63%) and the combined disturbance (50.79%), respectively. These three disturbances may promote the formation of Fe/Al-P and Ca-P. The formation of Fe/Al-P and Ca-P was largest under the physical disturbance. However, the algal-available phosphorus (AAP) is reduced due to the physical disturbance, suggesting that physical disturbance may promote the transformation of AAP to occluded Fe/Al-P or Ca-P.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: With the advances in radiotracers, positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) is recognized as a useful adjunct to anatomic imaging with CT, MRI and endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS). The objective of this review was to comprehensively analyze the roles of PET/CT for the radiotherapy of esophageal cancer. METHODS: In this review, we focused on issues concerning the application of PET/CT in TNM staging, target volume delineation and response to therapy, both for the primary tumor and regional lymph nodes. Furthermore, the following questions were addressed: how does PET/CT guide appropriate treatment protocols, how does it allow accurate tumor delineation and how does it guide prognosis and future treatment decisions. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: For the staging of esophageal cancer, PET/CT played a crucial role in exploring distant malignant lymph nodes and metastasis with high sensitivity, specificity and accuracy. PET/CT using different radiotracer provided a serial of thresholding methods based on standardized uptake value (SUV) to assist in auto-contouring the gross tumor volume (GTV). The change in SUV may offer a potential paradigm of personalized treatment to definitive chemoradiotherapy (CRT). In total, PET/CT has sought to further optimize radiotherapy treatment planning for patients with esophageal cancer.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: During June 2 - 8, 2009, 11 cases of the novel influenza A (H1N1) occurred in Sichuan Province, China. We investigated this outbreak to identify the source of infection, mode of transmission and risk factors for infection. METHODS: The primary case, a U.S. citizen, developed disease on June 2. From June 3 to 5, she joined Tour Group A for a trip to Jiuzhaigou. We telephoned passengers of the three flights on which the primary case had traveled in China, and members of Tour Group A. We asked whether they had any influenza-like symptoms during May 27 to June 12. Health authorities placed passengers whose seats were within three rows of the primary case on flights and members of Tour Group A on medical observation, and isolated individuals if they developed symptoms. We used real-time RT-PCR to test the throat swabs from symptomatic persons for the novel influenza virus and defined a confirmed case as one with influenza-like symptoms and laboratory confirmation. A retrospective cohort investigation to identify the risk factors for infection was conducted. We interviewed all members of Tour Group A about their detailed contact history with the primary case. RESULTS: During June 5 to 6, 9 (30%) of the primary case's 30 fellow tour group members developed disease, compared with none of her 87 fellow passengers to Jiuzhaigou and 1 of her 87 fellow passengers on the returning trip (when several of the members of Tour Group A were symptomatic). 56% of the tourists who had talked with the primary case in close range (< 2 m) for ≥ 2 minutes developed disease, whereas none of the 14 other tour group members developed disease (RR = ∞;exact 95%CI: 2.0 - ∞). Having conversed with the primary case for ≥ 10 minutes (vs. 2 - 9 minutes) increased the risk by almost five fold (RR = 4.8, exact 95%CI: 1.3 - 180). Conversely, other kinds of contact, such as dining at the same table, receiving chewing gum from the primary case and sharing bus rides or planes with the primary case played no roles during this outbreak. CONCLUSION: This novel influenza A (H1N1) outbreak was caused by an imported case, and transmitted mainly via droplet transmission when the primary case was talking with her fellow tourists during a tour. These findings highlight the importance of preventing droplet transmission during a pandemic.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of muscular pedicle bone grafts with sartorius or tensor fasciae latae and sartorius in fresh transcervical or subcapital fractures of the femoral neck. METHODS: Thirty cases of fresh transcervical and subcapital fractures of the femoral neck were treated by the tail breakable screws and sartorius pedicle bone grafts (single muscular pedicle, SMP group). The other 23 cases were treated by cannulated pressure screws and bone grafts with the muscular pedicles of both sartorius and tensor fasciae latae (double muscular pedicles, DMP group). RESULTS: Fifty-two cases were followed up for 3 to 5 years (mean, 4 years). In SMP group, ten cases showed poor therapeutic results. Excellent therapeutic effects were achieved in all cases of DMP group. CONCLUSIONS: The transcervical or subcapital fractures of the femoral neck can be treated by double muscular pedicles bone graft. The bone graft with double muscular pedicles is more effective than single sartorius muscular pedicles for fresh transcervical and subcapital fractures of the femoral neck during short and medium terms.
